The solicitation for the final issue of 2018 is here! Issue #12 marks the end of Year 1 and the exciting conclusion of “The Battle for Angel Island“! Unfortunately, once again we are not treated to any covers, perhaps to prevent any spoilers they might contain. Despite that, the solicitation did give us some insight into the events of issue #12 and the beginnings of Year 2!
“The Battle for Angel Island,” Part Four. The thrilling conclusion to the Battle of Angel Island saga! As Sonic and his friends work to restore Angel Island, two questions remain: is Neo Metal Sonic truly defeated, and what other trouble is brewing?
The cap on IDW’s first year of Sonic the Hedgehog adventures-and the lead-in to year two!
An old foe returns…
As one might assume, in the end our heroes are triumphant against Neo Metal Sonic, but how they manage to defeat him and retake Angel Island remains to be seen! It also implies that Metal might no be out for the count, and may continue to be a threat well into the future. There is little doubt that we will see Metal again, since Dr. Eggman always seems to rebuild him, time and time again!
Speaking of Eggman, is he the old foe returning? It seems likely, but at the same time, a tad too obvious for me to be certain. Flynn has already thrown us a few curve balls, and I am wary to make any assumptions at this point. However, I find it completely plausible that an Eggman with his memories restored might make an appearance in this arc to play a critical role, but that is just my hunch; we will have to wait and see!
Ian Flynn will complete his first year writing for the new run and lay the groundwork for Year 2, with interior art by the talented Evan Stanley! Evan will also be illustrating the A cover, while Gigi Dutreix will finally make her IDW debut on the B cover. Rounding out a full year of incentive covers is Nathalie Fourdraine! I am curious as to whether they will continue to use her art for the retailer incentives or give other artists a chance. Honestly, while I would like to see other talented artists get a chance to do covers, I really would not mind if Nathalie continues her streak either!
